Shiva Coral-Lei's Mission

The main goal in life is to be happy, right? The best way I do it is by getting into the body every day to see where I'm at today... when it comes to dharma, loving my passion, I enjoy helping others by practicing and teaching yoga, as well as encouraging self-healing treatment. Combining yoga with self-applied trigger point self-care is, I believe, one of the best-known self-care therapies there is to man.
When healing the body the act of healing is considered a multifaceted journey. When one is Healing Consciously the main personal pain assessment comes from the physical body where the pain is deeply set in the tissues. Although we know that energy is more than just physical, the first goal here is to apply self-care techniques that will help release the tight tissues in the body (a muscle held in contraction that may show up as referred pain to other areas). It is when we apply the ancient practice of Yin Yoga that the world of healing becomes whole.

Yoga heals the body-mind connection through breath and stillness. Yin yoga has a few chosen postures that are held for at least 3-5 minutes where stillness in the body aids the mind to relax. Yoga helps illuminate the stillness of the body through breathing consciously to help encourage a quiet mind. Yoga is not about posture as much as it is about focusing on the breath. It is commonly known that when breath is lost so is the posture (pose).

"Some regard Yin yoga as the oldest form of Hatha yoga since it is an effective method of physical conditioning for prolonged meditation, which was the principal concern of ancient yogic practitioners." ~ Bernie Clark

Now here the trigger point release is about self-care therapy. The goal here is to free the body of pain and its ability to create greater health and wellness. This is where the truth can be revealed. This revelation comes from the discovery of the effects of past issues. Is the pain truly just physical? Or, is this the only way the mind and ego will allow the truest of all pain to reveal itself?

Choosing to learn more about why you are in pain can happen by attending a trigger point class or workshop involving yin yoga. This includes simplified knowledge with trigger point theory and a relaxed floor practice with yin yoga. After using balls and rollers to aid in the release of the contracted muscles that have affected the length and strength of the tissue, the body is now more capable to remain in a receptive state.

The muscles held in a state of contraction (better known as a knot) benefit from props or a massage. Dedicating time to palpate the tissue (self-massage or rubbing the tissue) results in a relaxed muscle with less tension or pain.

Note: When tissue hasn't been released in a class or workshop, this only means the trigger needs more attention to help guide a full release. This is not unusual since the majority of people with chronic pain need more attention in those certain areas.  It is important in life to not create more pain, especially in a class like yoga; the intention is to not put the body in pain during the poses

Do you suffer from chronic back or neck pain, or just find stretching really difficult due to tightness?

Trigger points can cause a variety of symptoms that lead to tension in the body. This class is designed for the participant who wishes to experience a more deep and targeted stretching practice. Yin Yoga with Trigger Point targets tendons, ligaments, and fascia within the body which often become locked with tension (creating blockages and often pain). Postures taught in a Yin Yoga class are held for long periods of time to allow a slow and safe opening of connective tissues, leaving the participant with an overall feeling of lengthening, lightness, and peace. A Yin yoga class is the perfect antidote to stress and a great counterbalance to more active styles of yoga however, it is most important to listen to the body get tighter and not stay in that stretch and then safe to come out, even if the class is still in the posture.
Yin yoga is a more passive practice that can be done every day. However, it can also be quite challenging due to the length of time postures are held. Yin yoga is open to all levels of students and is a perfect complement to a more active style of yoga such as Power Yoga or Ashtanga.
