Yin yoga involves a relaxed practice of floor postures that are held from three to five minutes at a time. There are fewer postures, or asanas, in the Yin style of yoga, as are found in more active (Yang) styles. Yang is where the muscles are engaged, whereas Yin is where we can get deeper in the tissues, like the tendons, ligaments, and the all needed fascia.

In a 75 minute Yin yoga class, you can expect to do an average of 6-10 poses, but I like to add time to apply the props to help alleviate tensions. There are approximately three dozen postures in a yang yoga class. Yin yoga is open to all levels of students and is a perfect complement to a more active style of yoga, such as Power Yoga or Ashtanga. Yin is best for people with chronic stress, tight bodies, and who have a difficult time being still.

Combining Yin Yoga with Trigger Point Therapy may seem like an oxymoron. Truly, therapists like myself DO NOT recommend exercise for a few days following a treatment. This is to allow the tissue to adjust to the knew length and to help the body heal. When I teach the TrP Yin class I will continuously remind you how deep NOT to go when holding the stretch.

Trigger Point Yin yoga complements the bodywork practice we all need. As we listen to the body with our own applied self-massage techniques, there is an increased awareness and feelings of tension. With the release from what was once locked in the tissues, commonly known as trigger points (TrPs), or simply knotted tissues, we begin to know more about our own body's messages and needs.

When we release trigger points emotion and mental awareness comes forth as the tissue speaks. We begin to listen through our hands and props which help increase our awareness. This takes practice.

As the energy of old tensions, and perhaps chronic injuries, starts to move the opportunity to open our body is encouraged with the GENTLE stretch with Yin Yoga. The conscious breath helps relax the mind. The benefits of this type of stretch is magnified and ready to learn. This is can be a simple daily practice.

The trigger point yoga workshops and classes are led by Coral-Lei, and she provides much knowledge with years of experience in healing the body. She still enjoys connecting with others in her body work treatments, better known as deep massages, as well as the many who come to her workshops.

Whether it is yoga or ball therapy, the result and intention is to open and free up the body of tension and pain.
Building the stamina with a calm mind and body can create a peaceful you.
